June 8 Air Asia Travel

We are at the airport 90 minutes before our 9:30 a.m. flight to Kuala Lampur. However, there’s no customs agent on duty (which must be cleared before checking luggage) at the ticket counter. Oh, Asia!

OK, the agent has arrived but because it is a domestic flight, his services are not required! We are asked to proceed to clear our bags. We cleared our bags and now we face the next obstacle. Where is the plane?

It’s now 15 minutes after scheduled departure and we are boarding the plane. I am monitoring my mild anxiety as we have non-refundable seats from KL to Phuket where we have decided upon another Sheraton Grande in the Laguna resort complex.

OK, we have just been informed by the captain that the plane has technical problems that “could take a while”. We have been “de-planed”. Forget the connection – now, we’ll be looking just to get out of here! They do not even have a computer at the gate. The attendant took our connection details and assured us that we be out on the next scheduled departure, 11:45 arriving 12:45 KL. Hmm. Our connection to Phuket departs at 12:45. Oh Air Asia!

Well we are in KL at 2:05 p.m. That’s the good news. Our newly scheduled departure is 8:25 p.m. with earliest check-in around 5:30 p.m. It’s 35 degrees and muggy so we’ve decided to hover around the airport anticipating lunch and maybe a bit of schoolwork for the boys. They’re excited.

In reality, the boys have shown they’re excellent travellers. Rolling with the punches, so to speak, with each unknown and each delay and finding the humour in the events as they unfold.
We rolled in at 10 pm to the Sheraton Grande Laguna Resort in Phuket.
