June 12 Ryan is a Teenager

Ryan’s birthday! He officially is a teenager!

The boys spent the day playing pool, water polo, and ping-pong with their friends from Maui. I went off and met with Robert at the travel agency. He did an incredible job booking all of our onward flights. We’ll be heading to Krabi next for beach, islands, and snorkeling, then to Chiang Mai in the north before flying to Taiwan to see our good friends Anita and James (we spent a half hour talking to them via Skype the other night and can’t wait to see them in person!!). It felt so good to get all of our plans done for the remainder of our time in Asia. The time is flying and we can’t believe that we’re already three months in with two months to go!

We invited our Hawaiian friends to join us for supper. We took a boat over to Robert and Odd’s restaurant on the lagoon and feasted on Thai food and cold beer. The kids all had a wonderful time chatting and sharing jokes. The adults enjoyed each other’s company and shared travel stories. Robert, Odd, and Vasco were there and we got a photo of us all together.

Afterwards we went to the bar where Ryan was presented with a decadent chocolate birthday cake while the everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday’ along with the band (thank you George, Joyce, Kwan, Santiya, Kai and all – you have treated us so well during our visit!). Although it was past ten thirty and the pool was closed the kids decided to sneak in and stay with Ryan until his birthday ended. They swam and quietly whispered among the palm trees until midnight. They then said good-bye to their friends as they were leaving for Ko Samui in the morning. It was a magical birthday for our new little teenager. He seemed so very happy!
