May 2 Deb's Road to Recovery

We had an exciting day whisking Deb off to the private doctor (Dr Prins) in nearby Bergville. He was great and diagnosed Deb with Rocky Mountain Fever (bug bite, likely a tick 4 or 5 days old) and she’s now on antibiotics. He had many pragmatic suggestions for Canadians to fit into the local African medical system (and suggestions for our continuing move to Asia in a few weeks. Additionally he had some suggestions on handling a Brendan allergy should it happen and which physicians and hospitals have the training and supplies necessary. Of course we all agreed that these precautions wouldn’t be necessary!

Although the overnight weather was stormy, the day turned beautiful in the afternoon and the boys took off with their new friend, Guillermo Domingez, from Spain (although they are stationed in Johannesburg and vacationing here. Once again talk of the boys re-connecting later in their lives. More tennis, basketball and that ubiquitous DS!

Storms brewing again in the evening. Hopefully clear again in the morning and we’ll hike the Thakula gorge at the base of the Drakensberg amphitheatre – a sheer 958m cliff in the shape of a horseshoe/amphitheatre.

  1. OK, I caught up with you all. Saw the photo of you guys (in the huge HUT?) and you all look great. Which is Diane & which is Brenda? Glad you're feeling better Deb but a tick bite isn't pleasant! GOOD SHOT OF JOEY - what a handsome guy! Ryan - do you not smile anymore? You look a little serious in the pictures lately. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Would love to talk with you all. If I could call you or better yet, SKYPE from Mats computer, I'd be a happy camper. Let me know. I LOVE YOU ALL. Enjoy your days with the Girls. Wish I could have been there too but much too much for my travel-bone. Love you, Love, Judie & Mats & the cats
