Di, thankfully, is up and moving. Her illness, which in the end she attributed to her rich meal the evening before, seemed to be behind her. Good thing as most of the day would be spent driving to the Kingdom of Swaziland. We left in the pouring rain and drove for an hour before the skies cleared. Our destination – the Forester’s Arms Country Hotel, high in the mountains of the north, near the capital of Mbdbane. We drove for 6 hours and were only lost once for just few kilometers. The new highway MR3 bypss had opened the day before and nary a sign! Luckily a couple of locals had us on our way I no time.
The hotel is a throwback to the mountain retreat lodges in Canada in the 20s (Haliburton comes to mind). It is terrific – roaring fires, cigars, laid-back bar, well-stocked library… and 25km from the nearest village (in each direction). We settled on 3 rooms adjacent to each other and we let TGIF (yes, it was Saturday) overtake us. Dinner is included (nine-course no less!!), and was great (and accommodating to Brendan’s dietery needs).
