Alibaster Mosque Citadel

Cairo is reknowned for peaceful coexistance of the military and its faiths. Nowhere is peace more obvious than at the monuments at the citadel (fortress) where Islam, Christian, Jewish and military are side-by-side. Mosque Alibaster (built by Mohammed Ali, not the boxer) – Cairo’s largst mosque, where also are found a Christian Church and Jewish Synagogue (restored by the government as a monument to those Jews who once lived here (none since the revolution in 1962 converting from monarchy to Republic). With a country 84% muslim, all faiths are welcome here.
