We’re in Plettenberg Bay at Emily Moon, a beatiful B&B with amazing amenities – which may tackle later. As the moment, our first priority is getting Deb to bed. She seems to be under the weather. We tucked her in with couple of Panado tabs and the 3 of us went canoeing on a local river, Bitou. After an hour or so, Deb wasn’t up for much, so she suggested that we head to Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. They were outstanding. In Monkeyland, the 8 species were in the park were ices from us. Not all were monkeys. There were lemurs, apes and monkeys and few other animals too. Our guide was fantastic and kept us all out of trouble with the locals! The photos don’t do justice to the many traits that these primates exhibit to show off (hair styles, songs and the boys’ favourite, the blue testicles and bright red penis – no joke). It was really enlightening. And I learned that monkeys aren’t apes and vice versa! Apes are more upright and lack tails and seem to be smarter (and more dominant). Totally fun.
Then we went off to the Birds of Eden. I forgot to mention that both these parks are in indigenous rainforests protected by the unusual valley that kept it from being dessimated by humans! The birds (and non-birds – bats were there, too), were colourful and incredibly domesticated. Bright colours everywhere plus many flew within inches of us and occasionally used us as a perch. A great afternoon. We rewarded ourselves afterwards with ribs and wings and head back after stopping at the pharmacy for Deb. She seems to be nursing a headache at the moment. Hopefully she’ll be fine in the morning.
For those following the blog for a while, just let you know I have movement in the finger now a week after being “stung” by the tree!
