July 9 Cat Ba Island

Joe spent the morning nursing his diarrhea and Deb went to town to fetch some Imodium from the non-English-speaking pharmacist. She is amazing! The boys spent the morning at the pool after hiking the mountain with Deb. By afternoon, the group of us were in stable condition and ready to head back. Our return trip to a local dock to catch a speed boat was less dramatic. Although, the boat was ancient and could easily be construed as a floating coffin especially at the 30 knots we were travelling. We made it safely to HaiPong after a 90-minute cruise and then transferred to our van for the additional 2-hours back to Hanoi. As we were all beat when we returned to the hotel, we called it a night. All of us except Deb who stepped out for a night on the town. And who dis she bump into? Averil and Paula. Wow. The world is small. Thanks Bettina for calling us at the hotel to wish us a happy anniversary. Thanks too to Judie who posts incredible notes on our blog – you are our number one fan. Thanks for the anniversary wishes.

  1. JOEY & DEB - WELL, once again it was great to "be" with you on SKYPE. I took a swim after we spoke and found a great recipe for HAUKSEN...or whatever pork shanks are. It's a long process of brining, frying, roasting and refrying but THE FINAL PRODUCT CANNOT BE BEAT if it works out.

Read your uptodate blog and want to check the VERY INTERESTING, VERY FUNNY BOXES OF YOUR critique...VERY INFORMATIVE. SKYPING is VERY LOVING, TOUCHING AND IMPORTANT. Love you guys. Mats was asking your whereabouts and I read him some of the blog and related a cute "street soccer" story of Ryan & Brendan that he could relate to.

Ya, Deb...Mats is my hero. I see you and Joey are clicked and that makes me very happy. It is good to go through life with someone you love. The boys are VERY lucky to see it and know it exists for their future.

Oops, time to deep fry - be right back. OKAY We'll see.

Yes, Joey, we are so much alike we do "complete the other's sentance" even more so...we have the same thoughts and knowing.

I love you guys so much. Will be on SKYPE whenever possible at noonish just in case we can meet again. LOVE AND BIG HUGS TO THE BOYS (BABIES). I love you all and wish you happy trails for the next leg of your trip. LOVE, Judie & Mats and the Cats P.S. BOBBIE is looking for a lap.
